Be Well NOLA Counseling

Dr. Laura Hernandez is a Licensed Professional Counselor based in New Orleans, LA and holds a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision. With over two decades of experience in education and counseling, she has seamlessly transitioned from being a dedicated teacher and counselor for children and adolescents to founding her private practice, Be Well NOLA Counseling.

In her pursuit of helping individuals and families overcome life’s challenges, Dr. Laura keenly observes the intricate interplay between the mind and body, emphasizing the profound impact of nutrition on emotional well-being. Prioritizing wellness is a cornerstone of her counseling approach, recognizing that true well-being involves addressing both mental and physical health. This holistic perspective has been shaped by her extensive background working with children, revealing the undeniable connection between mental and physical health.

Her journey began in the classroom, where Dr. Laura noticed fluctuations in behavior and attention among students throughout the school day. Recognizing the rollercoaster of emotions, behavior, and attention, she astutely identified the influence of the students’ dietary choices. Whether navigating high-sugar celebrations or daily nutrition, the impact on their well-being was undeniable.

In her current private practice, Dr. Laura focuses on counseling children and teens, guiding them to develop essential skills for managing significant emotions, anxiety, and various presenting issues. While therapeutic techniques are crucial, she acknowledges that persistent physical symptoms of anxiety and emotional dysregulation sometimes require a holistic approach. This realization prompted her to collaborate with her sister-in-law, Dr. Lauren Hernandez, a pediatrician, bridging the gap between mental health and physical well-being.

Excited about their partnership, Dr. Laura and Dr. Lauren have created a comprehensive program aimed at reaching more families. By combining their expertise, they offer an integrated approach to wellness, recognizing the interconnectedness of mental health, physical health, and nutrition.

Beyond her professional pursuits, Dr. Laura is a dedicated wife and mother to a son and two daughters. Her personal understanding of the pivotal role mental health and nutrition play in the growth and development of children informs her work, as she passionately shares with her own family and the families she counsels that “it’s all connected!”
